Vocational Nursing
One of the most exciting careers currently in high demand is vocational nursing. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) is expected to grow 22 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations.
As a vocational nurse you are a vital part of a healthcare team. You work right alongside registered nurses (RNs) and doctors and provide patient care for those who are ill, injured, or disabled. The beauty of the vocational nursing profession is that you can work in a number of settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, convalescent homes, doctor’s offices and private homes.
Licensed by the state, vocational nurses perform basic therapeutic and preventive nursing procedures while being compassionate and caring to patients. Some of the duties include taking patient vitals, monitoring patients and recording reactions to medication, and preparing and giving injections.
